Custom Faculty-Led Programs

Virtual Learning with EEAbroad

Due to the unpredictable and continuing COVID-19 situation in the U.S. and abroad, and the humanitarian and economic crisis in Cuba, we have temporarily suspended all EEAbroad in-person programs. However, we are still offering fully-tailored virtual learning opportunities and virtual tours to inspire future travel with us.

Please reach out to collaborate and create a custom virtual learning experience to internationalize an existing syllabus or develop a new course curriculum. Otherwise, we hope you’ll stay connected with us as we await to resume safe travel to Cuba.

Virtual and Hybrid Learning

Why wait? Begin your journey through Cuba today! With EEAbroad virtual and hybrid learning, your students can learn now and travel later, allowing them to discover Cuba at any time and any place.

Through professionally developed virtual learning modules, EEAbroad will internationalize your curriculum before ever stepping foot in-country. There’s something for every aspect of your curriculum, from walking tours, lecture series, case studies, and live Q&As. You’ll find that each virtual learning module allows for asynchronous and synchronous experiential learning opportunities that include professionally produced, pre-recorded videos, additional online learning resources, and reflection questions, so students can learn at their own pace and time in the classroom can be dedicated to communal reflection and deep discussion.

We believe our approach promises better retention of the course material and efficient use of online classroom time. Additionally, hybrid learning with EEAbroad can allow for pre-departure learning and country orientation, so more time can be spent on the streets of Cuba, learning from locals, and experiencing for themselves what this country is all about.

No matter what your goals are, we will work with you to create a custom virtual learning experience.

Economics of Change: Business Culture in Cuba

For nearly sixty years, communist principles have directed Cuba's economy and politics. But the winds of change are blowing strong, and Cuba’s private business sector is now thriving in modern times. With a focus on entrepreneurs, this program offers a close-up view of Cuba's economic evolution and ongoing policy reforms.

Experts and business leaders provide inside perspectives on U.S. - Cuba relations, Cuba's economic reforms, foreign investment law, and the flourishing tourism, restaurant, and tobacco industries. Lectures are paired with visits to development projects, hotels, factories, private, state, and cooperative businesses, as well as government offices, giving students the chance to interact directly with Cubans living this economic transformation every day.

Panoramic Cuba: History, Politics, and Culture

From politics, art, history, economics, food, healthcare, education, religion, and music, Panoramic Cuba offers a comprehensive introduction to our dynamic island neighbor.

In engaging classroom sessions, learn from Cuban experts about their country’s strengths and struggles and the full complexity of this Caribbean nation. Each lesson is paired with in-depth visits to schools, clinics, government offices, museums, hotels, factories, dynamic neighborhoods and allows students to explore modern life in Cuba for themselves.

Learn from the Best: Education Practicums in Cuba

With the highest literacy rate in the Americas and universal access to education for all students from preschool to college, Cuba’s education system attracts worldwide attention. EEAbroad offers both education majors and teaching professionals the chance to step inside Cuba’s schools and classrooms for an in-depth look at how this tiny, resource-strapped island has achieved educational landmarks that most of the developed world has not.

In partnership with one of Cuba’s top universities of education, this program provides a deep immersion into Cuba’s classrooms, engagement with students and teachers, and access to one of the island’s premier teacher training programs. This practicum allows teachers to teach for themselves and hone in on their most desirable program aspects.

In the Field: Sustainable Agriculture in Cuba

As a Green Movement leader and a trailblazer in organic and local food, and having survived the peak of the oil crisis, Cuba is the perfect place to study sustainable agriculture.

After the Soviet Union collapsed in the early 1990s and U.S. economic sanctions tightened, Cuba had to reimagine its agricultural system or succumb to famine. Cubans were forced to grow their food without chemical pesticides, fertilizers, and other industrial farm tools, which paved the way to the nation’s sustainable agricultural revolution. Get your hands dirty with EEAbroad and learn from the farmers and scientists, such as Fernando Funes Monzote (the mastermind behind the world-renowned Finca Marta), about how economics, politics, and agriculture all intersect.

Cuba Today: Language, Culture, & Social Change

Get to know Cuba — a European colonial bastion that went on to spark a revolution and inspire artists from Hemingway and Diego Rivera to Beyoncé and Cimafunk. Cuba is known for its white-sand beaches, vintage cars, and famous Habano cigars, but there's so much more to learn about our island neighbor.

In this program, study Spanish at the prestigious Universidad de la Habana and learn alongside students from across Cuba and around the world. Join EEAbroad, and immerse your class in Cuban life today. Meanwhile, students get an inside look at the nation's politics, economy, healthcare, religion, and art through expert lectures and experiential visits that connect classroom learning to the real world.

Cultural excursions to Cuba

During an EEAbroad program, you and your students can explore Cuba well beyond Havana’s city streets. At an additional cost, every cultural excursion allows groups to travel across this unique island nation, witness its ecological wonders, and learn about life outside the classroom.

From exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Viñales valley to witnessing former sugar plantations of Matanzas that tell a story of Cuba’s past, we make traveling through Cuba your new experiential classroom. Some of our favorite destinations include Santiago de Cuba, Holguín, Guantanamo, Camagüey, and Santa Clara.

Wherever you want your classroom to be, EEAbroad can help take your students abroad and enhance your programs with intimate Cuban community encounters across the island.
